I’m an Apple customer from way back, like 1985 back. Even in the leanest years, I hung on. It eventually paid off, when Steve Jobs came back and Apple delivered new and innovative products like the iMac, iPod and iPhone. But that was then. In the intervening years Steve Jobs has passed away and Tim Cook has taken over as CEO. Tim Cook is an operations guy, he’s not an innovator. This situation is similar to what happened at Microsoft where Bill Gates handed over the reins to Steve Ballmer who was also an operations guy. In both cases, the companies did extremely well as far as sales go, but lost their leadership in product innovation.
