Stories like the downturn at Metafilter have shed some light on the behavior of Internet giants like Google, Facebook and Amazon. Their enormous impact, combined with their reliance on algorithms to do the work have pointed out the downsides of monopolies. But don’t look to the FTC for help, they’re mostly interested in being “business friendly” and move so slowly in any case that it’s pretty much not worth trying. In other words, you’re on your own.
