The new FCC head, Ajit Pai, thinks AM radio is something worth saving, particularly for its embrace of diversity and local coverage. But is it worth it?
Ask yourself when the last time you switched your radio over to the AM band. What did you hear? Maybe some local sports coverage and a whole of lot of angry talking heads. Is that something worth preserving? To be honest, I’m not sure and without a major change in listening habits it won’t matter in a decade anyway. Perhaps the FCC should take the patient off life-support and let nature have its way.
