Even before its attempts to sell off its patent portfolio are complete, Eastman Kodak announced it’s hoping to sell its film (professional and consumer) and photo kiosk businesses.
The rumors are Kodak’s patent sale is not going well and won’t bring nearly the amount they’d hoped. And it’s not clear to me there will be any buyers for their film business either. There are companies who make a profit in film, but they’re all smaller than Kodak and lack the legacy overhead that burdens its film division. A buyer would have to be able to separate film from the rest of the sinking ship and I don’t see how they’ll be able to do that.
It’s sad to watch, but Kodak is dying and not slowly anymore.
