Farhad Manjoo thinks Amazon’s new same-day delivery model will destroy local retail. I’m not quite as sure but it’s clear that it will have a noticeable impact on a lot on non-perishable goods vendors. Things like (some) groceries are probably okay as well as some niche items that lack sufficient volume of sales to be attractive to Amazon. But pretty much everything else is going to have to adapt or face intense pressure.
