The EFF has a simple tutorial for removing your Google search history before the new privacy policy takes place. It’s easy and worth the 2 minutes it will take you.
Also, since your browser probably defaults to Google search for the search box, you might want to consider changing that to another search provider like Bing (yes, I’m recommending a Microsoft product) or DuckDuckGo.
