A slippery slope

A Boston jury has awarded a man $1.5 million for injuries he sustained while using a Ryobi table saw. The saw in question did not have a safety feature only available in another company’s table saws. That company has been trying, so far unsuccessfully, to have its patented technology made mandatory for all table saws. But this case might make it easier for legislation that favors this one company to pass.

The patent system was not created to enable the government to create monopolies via legislation.
