I think the problem that he’s having is understanding popularity in a market that’s not controlled by the developers themselves. You can’t just cobble up an Android phone and use it, you have to buy one from either a carrier or somehow obtain one and activate it with a carrier. It’s not like desktop (or server) Linux.
