Great!

Denied the theater in Ren Square, RBTL is looking to move to Brighton. Great, so in addition to the generous tax abatements I’m sure they’ll get, we’ll get more traffic. And when they go belly up, we’ll have a building unsuitable for anything other than demolition. My taxes are high enough already, maybe it’s time to get the hell out of Brighton.

RBTL Considering Suburban Locations for Theater

The Rochester Broadway Theater League is so angry that Ren Square didn’t include them they’re taking themselves to the suburbs.

Here’s a hint for them. Buffalo and its metro area is much larger than Rochester’s. There’s a reason they can attract much larger shows (and not just for Broadway productions) and why Rochester so often gets bypassed. Adding seats won’t necessarily make up for the fact that there’s just fewer Rochestarians who would go. It was wise for the city to question this and remove it from the plan. If RBTL can find a suburban location and fund their theater without soaking the taxpayers, more power to them. But I have a feeling they won’t.
