South Carolina blogger Philip Smith won an important ruling in favor of bloggers’ rights when a court dismissed a defamation suit against him. Smith had posted critically about a company, BidZirk, which then took him to court and harassed him for over a year. While the ruling does not strictly equate bloggers with journalists, it does establish the bloggers share some of the same rights afforded to journalists in such situations.
