So close to a vacation day.

As I was getting out my car in the parking garage, I heard fire sirens. Not unusual for downtown, so I only paid minimal attention. But they came down Woodbury and turned onto Clinton, heading North. As I walked to my building, I realized they were stopping in front of it. Then I noticed people coming out of the building as the firefighters went in. Turns out there was a fire up on the top of the building and an evacuation had been called for those who were at work (it was before 7:30 AM).

Since there’s really no place to assemble, they move everyone across the street to Washington Square Park. It was nice weather today, so it wasn’t too bad though I wouldn’t want to be standing there in winter. Eventually, they allowed us to go to B&L’s lobby, which has a coffee stand, so at least we could sit down and enjoy some coffee while we waited. It was over an hour before they let us back in.

Considering it’s the Friday before Labor Day weekend, it was all I could do not to just head home. But I was the only one of my group in so I had to.
