Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest crowns a “winner”
Jim Gleeson has been declared the “winner” of San Jose State University’s 2007 Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest. Bulwer-Lytton is remembered as the author of the “It was a dark and stormy night” as well as other pieces of truly tortured syntax. Gleeson’s entry:
Gerald began — but was interrupted by a piercing whistle which cost him ten per cent of his hearing permanently, as it did everyone else in a ten-mile radius of the eruption, not that it mattered much because for them ‘permanently’ meant the next ten minutes or so until buried by searing lava or suffocated by choking ash — to pee.
Monroe County Democrats roll over, play dead
Monroe County Democrats have set themselves up as the whiner party for another four years by not even trying to oppose Maggie Brooks. Much like the Democrats in Congress, they’d rather whine about not being heard than actually do something about it. “It’s expensive you know, it’s hard!”
Facebook Fatigue?
People are complaining of Facebook Fatigue? I don’t get it. I created a profile, added my two daughters as contacts and uploaded a picture. I’ve had one professional acquaintance add me as a contact; no one else in any of my address books has an identifiable account on Facebook. I’m done. I guess this has to do with my personality type but really, how much work can it possibly be?

The wonderful comic Little Dee, by Chris Baldwin, is back home after having spent time at comics.com. I guess they didn’t see its syndication potential and didn’t renew the trial they had with Chris.
