Closed Published by Tom April 30th, 2007 in Government, Patents, TechnologyIt took a disputed patent on adjustable car gas pedals to get the Supreme Court to throw out the old “non-obvious” rule that lower courts had been using to artificially extend patent rights. Perhaps it’s time to make sure Federal regulatory agencies actually do what they’re supposed to do and isolate [...]
Ever wonder how much of your HMO money goes to health and how much gets gobbled up by overhead? In the case of Kaiser Permanente, it’s billions of dollars.

Why would someone pulled over for a traffic stop kill a state trooper and wound two others before dying in standoff with police? Is there something in our culture that somehow convinces people there’s no hope and the only answer is [...]
The failure of “professional journalists”
Closed Published by Tom April 26th, 2007 in News, PoliticsAs Glenn Greenwald outlines, it was the “professional journalists” that completely dropped the ball on the run up to the Iraq war. Bloggers are beginning to take their place in the formation of public opinion specifically because they’re not so beholden to the Administration or special interests.
Let me put it a different way. There’s [...]
