Thanks to a recent surge, I’ve finally passed the 10,000 spam comment mark. That’s just since the second week of November when this weblog went live on Wordpress. Compare that to the 180 or so legitimate comments I’ve received since 2000 and you get an idea of how bad comment spam has become. I’d seriously consider turning off the comments if it were not for Akismet.

Three of the major stakeholders in the upcoming GPLv3 have commented on the latest draft. Stallman, the founder of the FSF, has mostly been dealing with issues arising from the draft. Torvalds has been a public critic of the new version and as head of the largest open source project to use the GPL, carries a lot of clout. Novell probably has the most to lose, given v3 directly addresses patent deals like they one they recently forged with Microsoft.

That theft of credit card numbers at TJ Maxx wasn’t just big, at 45.6 million card numbers, it’s the biggest ever. Time for a new credit card, no matter whether you can recall shopping there or not.

More offices for High Falls means that former Mayor Bill Johnson’s legacy is effectively nonexistent. No ferry, no entertainment hub and no one to care. At least the buildings will be mostly spared and there’s still the East End (which is thriving, thank you very much).
