Sony eBook Reader

Sony’s Reader is the latest attempt to make books obsolete. It doesn’t, but it’s the best attempt so far.

I like eBooks and I read them on my Palm all the time. But they’re not a replacement for books, just a convenient format for when I’m unexpectedly in a situation where I’ve nothing else to do. There’s something about holding a book in your hand that eBooks don’t provide, regardless of the form of the hardware you read them on. You can own thousands of eBooks in the space of your PC, but there’s nothing to hold, nothing to really look at. I don’t use the library much for that reason, I love the ownership of books. No eBook will ever give me that feeling.
