Ted Stevens, the nut­case from Alaska who thinks the Inter­net is “a series of tubes”, is ‘the secret sen­a­tor’ who placed a hold on a bill that would require the gov­ern­ment to pub­lish online a data­base of fed­eral spend­ing. In other words, he doesn’t think the gov­ern­ment should be account­able for how it spends our money.
