Stephen Col­bert is not Chimpy McAWOL’s best friend. He might have a nick­name in the White House, but you can bet it’s not a cute one like “Pooty Poot”.

Unsur­pris­ingly, the MSM has turned Colbert’s piece into one of the year’s under-reported sto­ries. You might see men­tion that he was at the din­ner, but you’ll more than likely hear only that Dubya did a bit with an impersonator.

I think I know what they were doing dump­ing all that dirt. It looks like it’s being used to pro­tect the street and side­walk from the heavy equip­ment that they’ll use to tear down the ramp.

By the way, I was has­sled by a rent-a-cop not long after tak­ing this pic­ture. He mum­bled some­thing about “no tak­ing pic­tures” and “police” but noth­ing too coher­ent. I told him I’d been tak­ing pic­tures for days and would con­tinue to do so but from a dis­tance so he couldn’t see me. He laughed and so did I.

They’ve changed the South Avenue ramp demo­li­tion day to Mon­day for some rea­son (although I plan to visit on Sun­day in case they’re try­ing to do it with­out an audi­ence). In the mean­time, they’re pil­ing dirt all around the ramp. I have no idea why, any­one out there know why they’re doing this?

If you’re a US miner, you have to won­der if the Sago air pack mal­func­tions were an iso­lated inci­dent, evi­dence that the air packs are unre­li­able or the result of inad­e­quate train­ing. I have an inher­ent mis­trust of the com­pany run­ning Sago based on their hor­ri­ble emer­gency inci­dent man­age­ment so I’m chos­ing to be scep­ti­cal until every­thing is fully investigated.
