New York State, in its infinite stupidity, has decided to establish three 10-day windows per month for vehicle inspections, with the idea that this will prevent everyone from waiting until the end of the month to get their car inspected. But it won’t, since the date will be set by the time of the month you get your 2006 inspection. In other words, wait until the end of the month and you have all month in 2007 to get the next inspection. Just like it is today.

Part of the problem is the state now requires information from your car’s computer to be sent at the time of the inspection. All that data coming at the end of the month seems to be overwhelming their computers. That data was their idea, of course, so given they have decades of data telling them when cars get inspected, how could they not have anticipated this?
