On Dewey Avenue in Greece is the old Air Force Plant 51 site. It was used in WWII to build landing craft and then converted to building parts for B-52 bombers. Although it looks abandoned, the site is still in active use, with a printing company in that front white building and a scrap metal company in the main building behind.
The plant is on Round Pond and is one of the most contaminated sites in the Rochester area. I stayed outside and away from the pond area.
There are more photos available on my Flickr site at Air Force Plant 51.

Mount St. Helens, which exploded back in 1980 on my birthday, has been spewing molten rock and ash for a while now. The problem is that scientists don’t know why.

There’s a reason you see the words “RIAA” and “dripping with slime” together. Like when their lawyers bully witnesses into perjury.

I previously photographed this building while it was in the process of being moved to its present site. I was both pleased and surprised they would take the effort to do so. It’s not quite done yet, but they’re certainly more than halfway there. I wish this approach was taken more often than it is.

New York State, in its infinite stupidity, has decided to establish three 10-day windows per month for vehicle inspections, with the idea that this will prevent everyone from waiting until the end of the month to get their car inspected. But it won’t, since the date will be set by the time of the month you get your 2006 inspection. In other words, wait until the end of the month and you have all month in 2007 to get the next inspection. Just like it is today.
Part of the problem is the state now requires information from your car’s computer to be sent at the time of the inspection. All that data coming at the end of the month seems to be overwhelming their computers. That data was their idea, of course, so given they have decades of data telling them when cars get inspected, how could they not have anticipated this?

The sides of Rt. 390 near me are covered with long grass that’s full of various bits and pieces that have fallen off vehicles. This looks like a brake master cylinder and was probably part of a load of junk parts on its way North. By Summer I would expect it to be completely invisible.
