You have to wonder how “corruption in the software” for the ferry’s propulsion control system could possibly occur. I’d expect such software to be in some type of non-volatile memory (like Flash), similar to the engine control system in your car. Some cars can be upgraded by service people, others require a computer swap. Either way, it takes something significant to change it. But here we have a multi-million dollar ship that seems to have had a change without an obvious cause. Not encouraging.
