But on a positive local note, the 911 center is adding E911 capability, which will allow them to locate cell phone callers (see my older post about E911, below). They’ll also have live video of major traffic areas, just like the local TV stations. The state has been adding an E911 surcharge to phone bills for E911 services for years and it looks like they’re finally getting around to spending it on what it’s supposed to be spent on (not a given in NY).
