Embe­dix Inc., which used to be Lineo, Inc., has been pur­chased by Metrow­erks which is owned by Motorola. This sort of con­sol­i­da­tion is not sur­pris­ing and will prob­a­bly con­tinue as the embed­ded Linux mar­ket matures.

Sony, along with Pana­sonic, are work­ing to develop a Linux-based open source plat­form for dig­i­tal home elec­tronic devices. They’re hop­ing to build an industry-wide standard.
