Mitch Kapor, the co-founder of Lotus (now a part of IBM) is working on developing an open-source PIM to compete with Microsoft’s Exchange (the server behind Outlook) and Lotus Notes. He’s making sure that Mac and Linux users have equal access (no pun intended), too.

I did my Master’s work on Smalltalk (a debugger), but you don’t hear much about it these days. Nevertheless, folks are still working with it. Case in point, Strongtalk: A Fast, Strongly-Typed Smalltalk (Windows-only, sorry). Some of the technology used to make it fast has been incorporated into Sun’s HotSpot VM, of course, the strong-typing probably helped. They also have an interesting overall compliation technique unlike older implementations.
I wonder how it compares to Squeak, feature-wise (I would suspect Strongtalk to be lot faster, obviously). I’ve used Squeak a bit, and it’s a great implementation, check it out since it runs on multiple platforms. It’s great for learning, and their site offers a lot of support for educational uses.

The Register has some early details on Palm OS 6.
Version 6.0 will be as dramatic a change for the platform as OS X was for Apple, or NT was for Microsoft, and represents the culmination of work from the former Be team Palm acquired last year.

Finally, there’s a movie out about large women that doesn’t treat them as objects of ridicule (ala Shallow Hal), called Real Women Have Curves. I think the title says it all. Look for more on this in the Journal fairly soon.
